Cat TTRPG Idea #54

I have started and stopped this series multiple times on different platforms (hence starting here with #54) but I’m giving it a go again with trying to make a more regular practice of putting out cat-themed TTRPG ideas.

When stats are needed, as here, I’ll provide them for Cairn since that’s the game I’m most interested in writing for right now.

Cat in a Hole

The glint of gold on the side of the trail catches your eye. You see on closer inspection it is coming from a hole hidden in the roots of a large tree. Reaching carefully inside to grab what you can only assume is treasure, you quickly pull your hand back, blood trickling from the scratch marks on your hand.

A cat with golden claws is hiding in the hole. It fiercely resists attempts to remove it, and its scratch has the potential to pass on strange illnesses.

Golden-Clawed Cat

3 HP, 8 STR, 14 DEX, 10 WIL, claws (d4)

• Feisty orange cat with golden claws hiding in a hole
• Lets its claws glint in the sun to lure adventurers and attack them
• Critical damage: Victim is infected with golden cat scratch fever (roll on table for effects)

Golden Cat Scratch Fever (d8)

1. Sweat profusely for 3 days; sweat smells like cat pee.
2. Skin turns purple for 5 days but you can jump twice as high
3. Left and right feet are swapped for 1 day; walking, running, and jumping are considerably more difficult
4. Sense of smell increases to the point of continuously causing nausea
5. Memory resets every 10 minutes for 1 hour
6. Can speak to cats but not humans for 1 week
7. Innate sense of where to forage for food and complete lack of appetite for 2 days
8. Gain ability to cast a random spell at will for 4 days but lose all ability to move
